Maryland Shakespeare Festival Celebrates Love…and Hate
Valentine’s Day Fundraiser to Support Good Will Summer Tour
Frederick, MD—Roses are red, violets are blue, Shakespeare is sweet, and raising money is too!
Are you looking for something out of the ordinary to do with your love this Valentine’s Day? Join Maryland Shakespeare Festival on Saturday, February 16, for their first-ever Valentine’s Day fundraiser, entitled Shakespeare: Love and Hate, an evening of scenes from the Bard for those in and out of love. No date? No worries—there will be scenes and songs for singles too.
Plus, you can show your heart in another way this Valentine’s Day, by supporting the arts in Frederick. Proceeds from this event will go to support Maryland Shakespeare Festival’s Good Will Summer Tour, bringing free Shakespeare to a park near you this summer.
Shakespeare: Love and Hate will feature a range of scenes and sonnets from the Bard that examine the many facets of love. See some of your favorite moments from Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Richard III, and more. Musical interludes performed by MSF’s acting company will tie the action together.
While you’re watching the show, sample wine, beer, and other beverages, along with a selection of delicious catered desserts, in a relaxed, cabaret-style atmosphere. You can also purchase a sonnet to be read to a special someone by one of the actors during the show.
Sonnet-a-grams will also be available at some downtown restaurants on the evenings of Thursday, February 14th and Friday, February 15th. Advanced reservations to have one of MSF’s talented thespians deliver a sonnet to your love are suggested. Participating restaurants include The Tasting Room, Acacia, Isabella’s, and more. Please contact MSF to schedule a Sonnet-a-gram and for a full list of participating downtown restaurants.
Make this Valentine’s Day a sweet treat for you, your loved one, and your favorite nonprofit by coming out to Shakespeare: Love and Hate! Doors will open at 8 p.m., and the show will start at 8:30, so those who want to enjoy the fine dining in downtown Frederick can eat a relaxed dinner, and join us afterward for dessert and Shakespeare. The event will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church, 105 W. Church St., Frederick, MD, 21701. Tickets are $25 for singles and $40 for couples. Sonnet-a-grams are $25.
