Maryland Shakespeare Festival’s 2010-11 Season in Exile culminates with As You Like It, the fifth and final Bare Bard production of the season. The As You Like It Bare Bard will run for two performances only: Saturday, April 9th at 8 p.m. and Sunday, April 10th at 2 p.m.
As always in Maryland Shakespeare Festival’s smash-hit Bare Bard Experimental Series, the cast will rehearse for one day only. Actors from across the country arrive in Frederick on Friday evening with their lines already memorized, and by Saturday evening, they are ready to perform the full production before an audience—with exciting improvisational acting, audience interaction, live music and dance, thrilling stage combat, and unbeatable storytelling.
Nothing is as it should be in the Forest of Arden. Silvius loves Phebe, who loves Ganymede, who’s actually the disguised Rosalind, who loves Orlando, who would love Rosalind back—if he could see through her disguise! There’s something for everyone in As You Like It, one of Shakespeare’s best-loved comedies: boasting wrestlers, girls in trousers, a lion attack, four weddings, and a couple of banishments. And of course, some of the most famous lines the Bard ever wrote: “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players.” Join Maryland Shakespeare Festival as the company adds even more fun to an already uproarious romp by doing it all unrehearsed!
The cast of the As You Like It Bare Bard will reunite this summer for Maryland Shakespeare Festival’s much loved Good Will Tour of parks throughout the state of Maryland. The summer performances of As You Like It will be fully rehearsed and produced, so audiences who catch the Bare Bard in April will be getting an exclusive sneak peak into the development of the play and the company’s process.
See the As You Like It Bare Bard on Saturday, April 9th at 8 p.m. and Sunday, April 10th at 2 p.m. Sunday’s performance will be followed by a spirited post-show discussion. No two performances are ever the same, so come twice! $15 suggested donation at the door. Seats fill quickly, so reserve in advance by emailing Karen@mdshakes.org or by calling (301) 668-4090.
