2/12 – 2/13/11 Beatrice and Benedick battle it out in Much Ado About Nothing

Maryland Shakespeare Festival’s Artistic Director, John Bellomo, and Board President, Shannon Parks, will vie for power as the warring Benedick and Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing!  As part of Maryland Shakespeare Festival’s 2010-11 Season in Exile this Bare Bard production will play for two performances only: Saturday, February 12th at 8 p.m. and Sunday, February 13th at 2 p.m.

As always in Maryland Shakespeare Festival’s smash-hit Bare Bard Experimental Series, the cast will rehearse for one day only. Actors from across the country arrive in Frederick on Friday evening with their lines already memorized, and by Saturday evening, they are ready to perform the full production before an audience—with exciting improvisational acting, audience interaction, live music, choreographed dances, and unbeatable storytelling. MSF’s Bare Bards have become celebrated with Maryland audiences for their edge-of-your seat style. Come see what all the fuss is about—but reserve early, because the Bare Bards sell out quickly!

Company members John Bellomo and Shannon Parks have long been comedic favorites on the Maryland Shakespeare Festival stage. Last summer, Parks delighted statewide audiences as the bawdy, flirtatious Nurse in Romeo and Juliet, under Bellomo’s sharp comic direction. At the beginning of the 2010-11 season, both stepped into senior leadership roles at the helm of Maryland Shakespeare Festival. Now they will star opposite each other as the famously embroiled couple Beatrice and Benedick. MSF audiences are encouraged to participate in the action, so feel free to take sides in the feud—or root for true love to prevail!

See Bellomo and Parks matched in a knock-down, drag-out battle of wits on Saturday, February 12th at 8 p.m. and Sunday, February 13th at 2 p.m in the Parish Hall at All Saint’s Episcopal Church, 21 North Court Street (enter through the blue doors on Court Street). Sunday’s performance will be followed by a spirited post-show discussion. No two performances are ever the same, so come twice! $15 suggested donation at the door. Seats fill quickly, so reserve in advance by emailing or by calling (301) 668-4090. Hi Players!

I loved seeing “Much Ado About Nothing” and became an instant fan! In fact, it was so good Saturday that I brought my 11-year-old son on Sunday, too. His first Bard’s play!

Amazing! I never thought he’d be interested. Which just goes to show: “Man is a giddy thing!”

I look forward to seeing your next performance.

    Wishing you “Hey, Nonny, Nonny!”
